 FAQs

  • The cost depends on several factors, including:

    • Total square metre area

    • Insulation thickness (we install from 20mm up to 120mm)

    • Scaffolding and access

    • Existing wall condition

    • Chosen finish, colour and system type

We always carry out a free on-site survey to assess the property properly and provide an accurate, fixed quote with no hidden fees.

  • External Wall Insulation only fails when it’s installed incorrectly.
Most problems come from poor workmanship or skipping essential steps.

Common causes of EWI failure include:

    • Incorrect insulation thickness or fixing pattern

    • Insufficient basecoat coverage

    • Mesh not embedded correctly

    • No stop beads, corner beads or drip beads

    • Thermal bridging not addressed

    • Poor detailing around windows and doors

    • Wrong primer or skipping primer entirely

    • Lack of ventilation or trapped moisture

    • Poor-quality materials

These mistakes lead to cracking, damp patches, blown render, algae growth and failed adhesion.

  • Because we follow a strict, system-approved installation process from start to finish.

Here’s how we ensure long-term performance:

✔ Proper Fixing & Insulation Thickness

We install insulation from 20mm to 120mm, using the correct mechanical fixings and adhesive patterns recommended by the manufacturer.

    ✔ No Thermal Bridging

We pay special attention to corners, reveals, soffits and junctions to eliminate cold spots — one of the biggest causes of future damp.

    ✔ Ventilation & Moisture Control

We ensure all areas are breathable and correctly ventilated so moisture can escape rather than get trapped inside the wall.

✔ Correct Mesh & Basecoat Application

Mesh is fully embedded and overlapped correctly for strength and crack resistance.

    ✔ System-Approved Materials

We use Licata systems, which offer certified components designed to work together.

    ✔ Window & Door Detailing

We use all proper beads, trims, drip edges and expansion joints to prevent water ingress and staining.

    ✔ Final Silicone Render Finish

Breathable, waterproof and flexible — preventing future cracking, discoloration and damp.

    ✔ Fully Qualified Installers

Every project follows the manufacturer’s specification so the system performs exactly as designed.

  • Usually no. Most rendering and insulation jobs fall under permitted development.
Listed buildings or conservation areas may require approval — we can advise during your survey.

  • We work most of the year, but extremely wet or freezing conditions may delay the finishing coat. We always plan around weather to ensure a smooth finish.

  • Silicone render is flexible, breathable and weather-resistant, making it far less likely to crack than traditional sand & cement render.

  • Most homes do require scaffolding. We handle everything for you and include scaffolding in your quote so you know the full cost upfront.

  • A professional installation can last 20–30+ years.
All Licata systems come with a 10-year manufacturer warranty.
